The Bodhi Tree

untitled (20 of 27)

Eating & trying out new cafes is definitely a favourite pastime of mine, so luckily I have sisters and other assorted human beings who happily accompany me on such outings.  In this case, it was more me doing the accompanying, but still... Rach & I loved our taste tester of the book-cafe that is The Bodhi Tree in Mount Hawthorn.

Never would I have thought I'd be making a post dedicated to cats.  I don't even like cats that much to be honest!  But when in Tokyo...

Tokyo Photo Diary: Akihabara

Arcades, anime paraphernalia, flashing lights, seedy shops which we didn't want to venture into, and a whole lot of BBQ meat.  Yup, that pretty much sums up our time in Akihabara.

T & I always love checking out the new goodies available in Claremont, especially when accompanied by a gaggle of enthusiastic bloggers and stylists, as well as drinks and snacks.  Nikola, queen of Times Square Claremont, spoilt us with such an event on Saturday that we were miraculously free from work to attend.  For once!

Therapy Time

You know what?  Stuff it.  Sometimes you just need retail therapy & today is one of those days.  Every single thing in this collage might be bought today (oops, this is our little secret) apart from the spotty S&B clutch that my mother has already brought home for herself.  So cool, right.

Shoppang

Oh and likely won't be able to find the J Brands that I have in white and reeaaally want in blue!  Any tips, Perthies, on some mid blue boyfriend jeans that are sold in store somewhere local?  My mother bear says to go to Sana and try Paige, so I'll let you know how that goes.

Tokyo Photo Diary: Tokyo Disney Sea

lefanciulle (11 of 66).jpg

Well, well, well...  Look - I finally invested some time into editing a whole bunch of Japan photos on my 5-day break last week (ED does have a few perks, including rostered time off!)!  So I guess that finally brings us to day 3?  Day 4?
I forget - it's been far too long.

Whatever day it was, Simon & I spent it at Tokyo Disney Sea.  Not your usual bright and technicoloured Disneyland fare, but a darker, moodier, sea-themed park dedicated to those "other" Disney movies (Journey to the Centre of the Earth?  Something with ships & pirates?).  Anyway, apparently the rides were great if you were bothered to wait in line for hours.  We managed to get onto one (the Journey to the Centre of the Earth) but ended up skipping the Toy Story ride because by the time we arrived, all the fast-passes were finished for the day!!  And that was only at 45mins past opening time...

Note to self & golden tips for those wanting to go - get there mega-early, and dedicate your first few minutes running to the rides to get your fast-passes.  Or else you'll MISS OUT.

Nevertheless, the most amusing thing about this amusement park was the fact that plenty of Japanese people appear to be obsessed with Disney.  Not many foreigners in sight, but lots of school girls (what are you doing out of school??) and adults alike - decked out in Disney garb.  I think most of my photos ended up being of the various outfits on show!  Tokyo Disney street-style perhaps?

Enjoy the photos!

Street Style: Natasha

lefanciulle (3 of 4).jpg

Natasha just came back from the US & was sporting some of her new clothes on the way to the hairdressers - I love the cheeky CDG Play shirt!  I'm pretty sure statement/logo-ed tees are the way to go this year in terms of Summer dressing; case in point tomorrow's street style maven who will be sporting another Etre Cecile piece.   Plain singlets begone!

Wedding: Just Like Magic...

lefanciulle (6 of 23).jpg

After getting a little frustrated trying to book a wedding venue, I can finally say that today it's been locked in!  Crisis averted.  Sadly no longer at my beloved Venn Gallery, but now replaced with the most gorgeous location tucked away in the middle of the city.  Now I have one year and seventeen days to sort the rest out.

That's my DIY wedding planning book by the way, and it's filling up fast.  Hope you all stick around for the ride!

Polkadot Vintage @ Summerset

DSCF5718

Scarborough's Summerset Arts Festival finished last Saturday with the Polkadot Vintage Markets followed by Birds of Tokyo playing a concert.  A free one at that!  PX and I took a wander through the markets ogling all the cool knick knacks and then rounded off the experience with a late afternoon icy pole from Delish Ice.  Sooo delish!

Nyomi's printed pants have inspired me not to hold back pattern-wise in terms of work-wear.  They're more eye-catching than your run-of-the-mill black pants and you can allow some personality to shine through.

Eat Out: Voyage Kitchen

lefanciulle (16 of 23).jpg

After quite a long period of separation, we reunited over brunch at Voyage Kitchen, which seems to be the local hip & happening joint for North of the River beach dwellers.  (That's us, I'll have you know.)
T had a healthy juice and S a strong coffee.  Beverages aside though, we found this place to have a big variety of reasonably priced fresh produce available for brunch (think: 4+ types of muesli alone) and this on its own warrants a return trip.

Rant: Summer Style Rut

Richard Nicoll ss12 London

Richard Nicoll SS'12 - dazeddigital.com

Today I'd just like to voice my frustrations over the curse that is Summer "style".  Note that my constant disgruntled demeanour primarily stems from the low-yield street-style-hunting outings in the name of Sportsgirl's Style Snaps over the past month, and the burning sunshine which ruins such photos & renders me a constant sweaty mess.  With no options for layers & the omnipresent sweat-patch-development fear (yeah, marle grey was a bad choice), I am currently feeling uninspired by both my fellow Perth-dwellers and my own style.  Call it seasonal style-dysthymia if you will (S will recall our lamentations from back in early 2013), but does anyone else apart from us two feel like there's just a rut in terms of awesome things to wear at the moment?

Thanks to last year's "style cleanse" that took the blogosphere (and us) along on a breton-striped, basics-only ride, I would love to say that the rebound rags on offer would be even more appealing.  But we're just not feeling it.  S mentioned last week that she's struggling to find things that she wants to wear, & I guess I'm in the same boat too.  Uniform dressing only cuts it for a short while until you're bored with basics... & it also makes for some pretty banal blog-fodder unless you keep updating your collection.  (Note that you also can't wear leather on leather in 30 degrees lest you desire some heat stroke.  It's just not do-able!)

That said, the countless problems that mindless consumerism creates far outweigh the potential monotony of the investment dresser, so I definitely know which path I want to take when it comes to bolstering my out-of-hospital gear this year and beyond.  Quality over quantity folks, and choosing items that suit me & my body.  And with the weather cooling down (hopefully) soon, I know I won't be alone when it comes to enjoying layering & long sleeves.  To be honest, I'm probably just sick of seeing droopy bottoms and saggy boobs!  Add to that a lack of weather-appropriate inspiration from my favourite European & American blogs, plus a whole lot of inappropriately-exposed bikini/underwear clad Aussie bloggers has made for some lacklustre inspiration on thirty-degree days!

Darling Perth, will you be better for my street-style hunts when the weather cools down?

Better yet, can someone please tell me what "Summer style" for Australia is? (apart from my 3-outfit-rotation boring-ass solution?)

In the Kitchen

IMG_1493

Oh hello.

I had been wanting to try this recipe for a while, so when I was on lunch roster last Sunday (Australia Day!  Hence the super bogan Australian flag singlet below) I decided to give it a go with a few modifications.  a) my pa doesn't like capsicum & no one wants hot food on a Summer day, so I used a lettuce leaf instead of the capsi.   b) I added in beef mince as this was our main meal for the day & I wanted to bulk up the quinoa.  c) added a side of greek salad.

Outfit: Rosarte

lefanciulle (2 of 23).jpg

Hello readers!  I apologise for the total radio-silence on my part (you've probably cottoned on to the fact that the daily street-style photos are all scheduled so I can catch up on sleep).  As it turns out, working 3pm to 1am results in many things such as slacking off on exercise, generally bad hair, and non-existent blogging.  Wedding planning is also taking preference over all other things (yes, wedding planning!).  Therefore I've come to the conclusion that rotating shifts just don't allow one to form proper daily rituals (which I am in serious need of) hence I feel emergency medicine will not be the vocation for me!

That said, I do manage to get out on my days off and always have the camera in tow!  Now if only my days off matched S's...
